The Italian courses are free and reserved for international Mobility students (Erasmus+ and similar), who’ll participate in the placement test.
Lessons will be held exclusively in person.
Following the test, a number of Italian 50-hour courses - level A1 through to C1 - will be made available to students in the first term. There are not organized Italian courses of C2 level.
Lessons are held 3 times a week, each lesson lasts two hours. Each student can attend only one course per semester, for a maximum of 2 courses during the same academic year. Students who have added the courses to the Learning Agreement UniGe will be allocated 3 CFUs per course at the end of each course and only upon passing a relevant test.
Only students who have attended at least 50% of the hours, are admitted to the final exam.
There’s only one date per course for the final exam; who fail the exam or is not present at the exam on the established date will not be able to retake it.
The 3 credits are not accompanied by a grade but they are comparable to a positive assessment (idoneità).

Term 1
To be included in an Italian course with teacher during the first term, the interested students have to take the placement test that will be held, exclusively in person, on October 22nd 2026.
Only students who enroll at the Università di Genova by October 16th 2026 and who flagged the option of the Italian course in the application form, are eligible to take the placement test: we’ll receive the list of interested students from the Sportello per la mobilità internazionale (sportellomobstud@unige.it). Only students present in that list will receive an email with information to take the test.
Even absolute beginners should take the placement test.
Classes will be probably start in the first week of November.
In order to be moved to a course of a different level than the one you were placed based on the test results, students must attend their assigned course in the first week of class and ask the teacher to be moved to another course: the teacher will evaluate and possibly accept the request.
This office will only accept requests from teachers and not from students. Students will not be allowed to change course after the first week of class.
Only those who sit the placement test, will be included in the Italian courses with teacher.
Students enrolled after October 16th 2026 (who are not eligible to take the placement test) have to contact the Sportello per la mobilità internazionale (sportellomobstud@unige.it) to be included in a self-learning Italian course on Icon platform, without teacher.
To obtain a level assessment statement (certificate)
We remind all those who passed the final exam of the course and need a certificate of level, to write to: erasmus.clat@unige.it providing your name, surname, matriculation number, level, teacher’s name. In order for the statement to be issued, the payment of a 16 Euro stamp duty must be made. It will be the Settore Sviluppo Competenze Linguistiche that will send you the link to the virtual payment.
